Course Features
There are many TEFL/TESL/TESOL certificate courses available, each designed to meet individual needs. For example online
TEFL/TESL/TESOL certificate courses are offered for those who do not have the time to attend an intensive TEFL/TESL/TESOL
course.
The most widely accepted TEFL/TESL/TESOL certificate courses, and therefore the ones which employers prefer their
teachers to attend, are 4 weeks long and have an element of practice teaching with genuine students of
English.
If you choose a course, which does not meet the following international TEFL/TESL/TESOL course standards, you might
be putting your employment potential at risk.
All internationally recognized TEFL/TESL/TESOL certificate courses must have the following features:
- 4 weeks of over 106 hrs of TEFL/TESL/TESOL teacher training.
- Certification by an international TEFL/TESL/TESOL course provider.
- 6 hours of fully observed, constructively critiqued and graded teaching practice on students of English.
- Guided lesson preparation by trainers.
- Group appraisal of individual teaching practices .
- Group input sessions discussing grammar, teaching skills, classroom management and phonetics.
- End of course examination covering all elements of the course
Additional features, which will not affect your employability, but are the benchmark for TEFL/TESL/TESOL courses worldwide
include:

the option of living with one of our carefully selected Mexican host families. In the past, students who have known they would
stay and teach in Guadalajara have found apartments on their own.
At ITTO, we also try to accommodate our students by allowing them time for
extracurricular activities. We offer cultural exchange groups and academic lectures for those wishing to expand their
cultural awareness and Spanish capabilities, tours of our city, Guadalajara, free salsa and guitar lessons for those interested,
and excursions outside the city such as LakeChapala and Tequila,
home of our national drink. We are also able to offer our students discounts around the city, such as memberships to
the Gym, a local swimming facility, and discount ceramic classes. Lastly, for trainees interested in taking Spanish
lessons, our partner EFL school offers a 5% discount for those students at ITTO who enroll in their Spanish program.
The TEFL/TESL/TESOL certificate course at ITTO offers all of the above elements and even surpasses some. We offer 140 hours of
training, 10 hours of teaching practice, and the opportunity to observe experienced ESL/EFL teachers in the classroom.
At ITTO, our course follows a communicative approach and an immersion technique. Our students attend morning input session,
which are guided by our professional trainers, and afternoon teaching practices with genuine English students at our partner
EFL school. Our course covers the following areas: classroom management, teaching skills, language awareness (grammar),
phonology and teaching practice.
We also offer our students free and unlimited access to our Self-Access Multimedia Lab with over 40 computers and a variety
of different language programs. Our Language Lab includes the CALL program, Computer Assisted Language Learning.
We aren’t saying you won't find employment without the previously stated features, but rather teachers who have
successfully completed a TEFL/TESL/TESOL certificate course that includes those features are more likely to become employed
than teachers who have not attended such a course.
